Ruru-Kawau Research (present to 2024)

Initiated as part of mahi undertaken at 26 Waikato Poukai in 2016-2017 (funded by Mātauranga Kura Taiao, Nga Whenua Rāhui, DOC), the project has now expanded into two streams of work guided by the narratives shared by whaanau at the Poukai:

  • Ruru Photovoice (Funder: Taiao Fund, Waikato-Tainui)
  • Kei hea te Ruru e koukou? Kei hea to kawau e rere? – Where calls the Ruru/Morepork? Where flies the Kawau/Black Shag? (Collaborators: bird scientists at Manaaki Whenua, marae in lower Waikato River catchment, Waikato-Tainui, Science Learning Hub, DOC, Waikato Regional Council; Funder: Clean Up Fund, Waikato River Authority)
